Shevardnadze Held Talks With Bush, Blair Over Abkhazia

(Tbilisi, June 2, 2003, Civil Georgia) – During the visit to St. Petersburg Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze held meetings with the leaders of various states, including British Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President George Bush.

In his Monday radiobroadcast Shevardnadze said “a brief, interesting conversation took place regarding Abkhazia. President Bush reiterated his support towards Georgia, while British Prime Minister showed great interest in this issue.”

The both countries have already appointed special representatives for this issue, who will take part in the discussion of the Abkhaz problem.

Shevardnadze expressed hope that the peaceful settlement of the Abkhaz conflict will start in the near future.
