National Guard Composed with Local Population to Protect Border with Russia
(Tbilisi February 3, 2003. Civil Georgia) – On February 2 Georgian Defense Ministry decided to form a border guard units with the local population living in the adjacent areas of the Chechen section of the Russo-Georgian border.
The first unit will be formed in Khevsureti, northern Georgia. The unit will control high mountainous sections of the border.
Georgian and Russian authorities say that that a new movement of the Chechen militants across the border is anticipated by the spring.
