Acting Mayor of Batumi Appointed
Giorgi Murvanidze was appointed acting mayor of Batumi on May 14, following the resignation of Archil Chikovani a day earlier. Murvanidze previously served as deputy head of the Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau.
From 2004 to 2005, he worked as an investigator at the Batumi District Prosecutor’s Office and later served as a senior investigator in the investigative unit of the Adjara Prosecutor’s Office. Since 2007, he has held the position of assistant to the deputy head of the Levan Samkharauli National Bureau of Forensic Expertise. From 2007 to 2014, Murvanidze served as Head of the Adjara Regional Expertise Department and, most recently, as Deputy Director and Head of the Criminalistics Expertise Department.
This is the latest in a series of ongoing reshuffles of Georgian Dream officials, including those in the Adjara government. Several weeks ago, Tornike Rizhvadze resigned as Chairman of the Government of Adjara and was replaced by Sulkhan Tamazashvili, a former Ministry of Internal Affairs officer sanctioned by the United Kingdom.
