Bagapsh Appoints New Security Chief

Abkhaz leader, Sergey Bagapsh, appointed Aslan Bzhania as new chief of State Security Service, Abkhaz new agency, Apsnipress, reported on February 24.

Bzhania, who graduated Soviet KGB courses in 1991, worked for the breakaway region’s security service in early 90s, but has not served for government since 1994 when he moved to Moscow and launched a business there.

Before the new appointment he has served as an economic advisor at the breakaway region’s embassy in Moscow since 2009.
