Repair of North-South Gas Pipeline Underway

Representatives of the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation and the Millennium Challenge Georgia Fund (MCG) will visit the Stepantsminda district of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region on April 25, where the second stage of repair work of the North-South gas pipeline will be launched. MCG plans to allocate USD 25 million for repairs of a 6.5 kilometer damaged section of the North-South gas pipeline in the district.

Georgia?s trunk pipeline receives gas at the border with Russia, transports it to Georgian wholesale customers and transits it to Armenia.

A total of USD 44.5 million is expected to be spent, in the framework of the MCG’s Energy Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project, on repairing the North-South Gas Pipeline.

Repair work on six other sections of the gas pipeline, which began under the first stage, is still underway.

The third stage envisages repairing damaged sections near the Armenian border.
