Talks over Abkhaz Railway Start in Tbilisi

Officials from Georgia, Russia and breakaway Abkhazia will meet on July 11 in Tbilisi to discuss the technical details of rehabilitating a railway between Russia and Georgia via Abkhazia.

During the talks, the three sides are expected to agree over the composition of an expert group which will assess the current condition of a 60-km portion of the railway that links Georgia’s Zugdidi district and the capital of the breakaway republic, Sokhumi.

According to Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava, results of this assessment will be known by October, 2005.
