In another attempt to popularize police, the Interior Ministry has released a computer game, “Police”, in which players control a police officer who lonely storms a bank seized by criminals.

In the game, which is available for free on the Interior Ministry’s website, a player takes part in a virtual hunt down of criminals armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles in order to save hostages before Special Forces with U.S.-made M4 rifles arrive.

The game, which is the first-ever 3D first-person shooter produced in Georgia, currently takes about 15 minutes to complete. This is because the game is an alpha build (an incomplete version), and is planned to be improved and expanded with the full version expected in couple of years.

Apart from promoting the police, the creators of the game say, they wish to advance video game development in Georgia.

The plans to develop the game were first made public last November, when Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili told Imedi TV that his ministry contracted a team of software engineers and programmers for this purpose. He also said that the game would also include Russian spies hunt down.

In other efforts aimed at promoting Georgian police, the Interior Ministry has also produced several music videos. The recent one is targeting kids, which triggered controversy, since it features children performing duties of police officers, special purpose unit troops and employees of other agencies, which are under the Interior Ministry’s subordination.
