Labor Party Rejects National Movement’s Offer of Election Alliance

(Tbilisi February 20, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Labor Party of Georgia declined National Movement?s proposal to have a single list for the upcoming Parliamentary elections so that the opposition could take full control over the legislative body.

?National Movement and its leader Mikheil Saakashvili is not an opposition, it is President Shevardnadze?s satellite party,? Shalva Natelashvili said at the news briefing on February 19.

On February 19 National Movement offered opposition parties to unite before the elections and achieve ?resignation of Shevardnadze and his government.?

Koba Davitashvili of the National Movement said at the news briefing on February 19 that the party holds talks with the Labor Party, United Democrats and Ertoba party, led by Jumber Patiashvili, former communist leader of Georgia regarding the creation of a joint election block.
