Opposition Wants to Implement Parliamentary Decision on Peacekeepers’ Pull Out

(Tbilisi, January 15, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary opposition faction United Democrats demand from the government to implement the Parliamentary decree on withdrawal of the Russian peacekeepers deployed in Abkhazia under the CIS auspices.

Chairman of the faction Giorgi Baramidze said at the briefing today that the United Democrats will raise the issue at the nearest Parliamentary session.
The Parliament adopted the decree recommending the executive government not to prolong Russian peacekeepers mandate in the Abkhazian conflict zone on August 26.

“We [United Democrats] fully support the IDPs protest rally demanding closure of the railway connection between Russia and Abkhazia and withdrawal of the Russian peacekeepers,” Giorgi Baramidze said.

IDPs from Abkhazia hold the protest rally at Enguri river, administrative border between breakaway Abkhazia and the rest of Georgia.
