Let’s Save Georgia from Corruption!

Intellectual part of the society and even members of Shevardnadze’s political team claim that the President prefers to be in the surroundings of corrupted state officials rather than dismiss them.

“Fighting against corruption is the major target of my life and state work”, the President states. The majority of the population of Georgia is positive that Shevardnadze is lying and his anticorruption promises are as unrealizable as his pre-election program, the Resonance says.

The newspaper has published comments by foreign political experts. According to them, struggle against corruption will be initiated only in case that kind of governmental mechanism is created which will enable the government to control strictly. Staff policy, legislative base and the government’s political will to punish certain state officials should also be added to the above-mentioned.

Leader of the Christian-Democratic Movement Irakli Shengelaia shares the idea. He told the Resonance that the present Constitution of Georgia is insufficient and it is a source of many problems. He regards that rights of the President should be limited, which will support the anticorruption policy; Changes should occur in the executive governmental branch; and present Parliament membership should to be reviewed for Shengelaia considers it unsatisfying.
