Turkish Navy Ship Joins Search for Two Georgian Army Servicemen Off Adjara Coast
Search for two Georgian military servicemen off the cost of Adjara in western Georgia continues for a fourth day on August 20.
After Georgia’s request the Turkish Navy’s A class minehunter vessels, TCG Akçakoca, joined the search efforts.
A Turkish coast guard boat is also involved, according to the Turkish embassy and the Georgian Ministry of Defense.
The two servicemen of the Georgian army’s special operations forces are missing since August 16, when they were diving during “scheduled exercises” off the coast of Gonio in Adjara region, according to the Georgian MoD.
Details of the incident are not clear, but MoD’s military police is investigating it under the clause of criminal code, which deals with cases of negligence that caused death.
Defense Minister, Levan Izoria, told journalists in Gonio on August 20, that the Turkish vessel will stay for at least three day, but it may stay longer if there are no tangible results in these three days.
