Georgia to Send GEL 1 mln Worth of Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine

Georgia will send humanitarian aid, mainly medical supplies and medicines worth over GEL 1 million (about USD 570.000) to Ukraine next week, Georgian healthcare minister Davit Sergeenko said on September 5.

Speaking with journalists after a government session, Sergeenko, who visited Kiev last week, said that the aid will include first aid and surgical kits, medical supplies, diabetes medicines, antibiotics and children vaccines.

He said that a cargo plane loaded with the humanitarian aid will be sent to Ukraine on Tuesday or Wednesday “at the latest.”

The aid, Sergeenko said, includes supplies that were requested at this stage by the Ukrainian side when he held consultations with his Ukrainian counterpart in Kiev last week.

Earlier this week Sergeenko said that he informed the Ukrainian authorities about Tbilisi’s readiness to send doctors to Ukraine or to bring citizens injured in military hostilities in the eastern Ukraine to Georgia for treatment, “but our Ukrainian friends told us that there is no need for that at this stage.”

“We are ready to react within 24 hours if such a request is made by the Ukrainian side,” the Georgian healthcare minister said.
