U.S. Vice President Speaks by Phone with Georgian PM
Vice President Joe Biden spoke by phone with Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili on August 22 to discuss “bilateral relations, Georgia’s deepening partnership with NATO, and Georgia’s efforts to attract foreign investment and grow its economy,” the White House said.
“The Vice President underscored his support for Georgia’s NATO membership aspirations as well as the United States’ steadfast commitment to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders,” the White House said.
“The two leaders agreed on the importance of pursuing reforms to strengthen rule of law in Georgia and attract greater foreign investment, including from the United States. The leaders also pledged to continue to stay in close touch regarding developments in Ukraine and elsewhere in the region,” the White House said.
According to the Georgian PM’s office, Garibashvili discussed with Vice President Biden “key aspects” of strategic partnership between Georgia and the United States.
“The PM spoke about developments in Georgia, reforms to be implemented as part of the Association Agreement [with the EU], as well as about recent [local] elections and situation in the region,” the Georgian PM’s office said, adding that the upcoming NATO summit in Wales was also discussed.
