Tskhinvali Releases Georgian After One-Day Detention

Authorities in breakaway South Ossetia released a Georgian man on May 14 after he was detained for "violation of South Ossetia’s border" a day earlier by the Russian FSB’s border guard troops deployed in the breakaway region.

The case was treated as an administrative offense and the young man was "expelled from the South Ossetian Republic", according to a website of the breakaway region’s authorities.

On May 13 Tskhinvali released three Georgians, who were arrested last year. EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), which welcomed the release, said on May 13 that residents living in the areas adjacent to administrative border line "should not fear detention if they inadvertently transgress the administrative boundary line."

The EUMM has repeatedly called on the sides to deal those, who cross the administrative bounder, with administrative and not with judicial actions.
