Georgia Makes U-Turn on Moscow Eurovision Finals

Georgia will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest set to take place in Moscow this May, the Georgian public TV said on January 5.

After the August war with Russia, Georgia said it would boycott the song contest hosted by the Russian capital this year.

The Georgian public TV, however, now said it had decided to participate citing “requests” from European Broadcasting Union, the organizer of the Eurovision Song Contest.

“We have received lots of letters from European Broadcasting Union requesting us to take part in this year’s Eurovision song contest. So we have decided to participate,” Natia Uznadze, producer of the public TV’s international projects, said.

Georgia debuted in the contest in 2007 and last year Georgian singer, Diana Gurtskaia, was 17th in a filed of 25 entrants.
