Chief Prosecutor Appointed

President Saakashvili has appointed Mamuka Gvaramia as the new chief prosecutor, the Georgian Justice Ministry’s press office reported.

Mamuka Gvaramia has served on various positions in the Georgian prosecutor’s office since 1995.

The General Prosecutor’s Office has been merged with the Justice Ministry as a result of the constitutional amendments in October. A Justice Minister is at the same time a Prosecutor General; a post of Chief Prosecutor is a separate position dealing with every-day activities of the prosecutor’s office.
