Bagapsh Says Abkhazia Aims at Offshore Status

Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh said on September 5 he thought Abkhazia had “all the conditions” to become “an offshore state,” RIA Novosti news agency reported.

Speaking at a news conference in Moscow, Bagapsh said the issue was on the agenda and “we will get prepared for that.”

He also said that Abkhazia would like to become a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
