The Statement of the Première Urgence
Première Urgence continues to assist the crisis-affected area via the supply of necessary NFI’s (such as beds, blankets, tents and jerry-can). With more than 80 tons of valuable in-kind support from the French Foreign Ministry, Première Urgence is able to answer some of the most urgent needs of the displaced population.
Première Urgence endeavors to assist the numerous crisis-affected people in Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital. Five days after the beginning of the conflict, PU already equipped with blankets and beds, five IDP collective centers, kindergartens, secondary schools located in Tbilisi so that they can offer minimum accommodation conditions to the IDPs. 520 people gathered in these centers. Benefited from this first distributions carried out yesterday (August 13, 2008).
Today, distributions are going on in three additional kindergarten schools (Tabakhmela, Kojori, Oqrokana) where IDPs are accommodated in basic conditions.
With merely 40 Première Urgence employees in the country at the moment, our agency will have to upscale very rapidly to assure the most adequate assistance for the crisis-affected all over Georgian territory. With assessment missions scheduled for the end of the week in Gori, Poti and the Svaneti region, Première Urgence intends to get a more accurate estimation of the needs in the field.
