Opposition to Take One Seat in Justice Council

One opposition MP will be appointed to the Supreme Council of Justice – the body overseeing the judicial system, in accordance wtih an amendment to the law on common courts, approved with its first hearing on June 24.

The amendment is part of an agreement reached between the ruling party and the Christian-Democratic Party on June 12.

The 15-member Council of Justice includes four lawmakers, one of whom – the chairman of the parliamentary committee for legal issues – is automatically entitled to be a member. while the others must be elected to the position.

MP Pavle Kublashvili, the chairman of the parliamentary committee for legal issues, is the brother of Kote Kublashvili, the chairman of both the Supreme Court and the Justice Council.
