Parliament Plans Group to Work on Election Code
Parliamentary Chairman Davit Bakradze said a group involving election stake-holders would be set up to elaborate proposals for the improvement of the election code.
“I think that it will be possible to set up such a group in autumn. It will be an inter-factional group, with representatives of various groups and experts invited to participate and this group will work to further improve election-related issues,” Bakradze said in Parliament on June 24.
His remarks followed a call by MP Giorgi Targamadze, the leader of the Christian-Democratic Party, for lawmakers to set up such a group.
“I propose speeding up the establishment of an inter-factional group to lay the foundation for building confidence in the election process in Georgia,” MP Targamadze said. “We are ready to actively engage in this process.”
