Abkhazia Hosts Investment Forum
In an attempt to promote investment opportunities, the Abkhaz authorities have organized an investment forum, which was opened in Bichvinta (Pitsunda) on June 18, Abkhaz news agency, Apsnipress, reported.
The chambers of trade and commerce of Russia’s North Caucasus republics, as well as a group of businessmen from Turkey are participating in the forum, according to Apsnipress.
The news agency quoted Handan Demiröz, a founding partner of Istanbul-based CSA Group and a representative of the Istanbul-based Democratic Circassian Platform, as saying that 75 businessmen from Turkey were initially expected to participate in the forum, but only 25 eventually arrived. She alleged that the chambers of trade and commerce of Trabzon and Istanbul and other Turkish businesspeople pulled out from the forum because of Turkish Foreign Ministry intervention, which was at the behest of the Georgian authorities.
In his opening remarks to the forum, Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh said that Russian businesses predominated in the Abkhaz economy, but others were required for full economic development in the region.
