Newspaper Says its Journalist ‘Physically Assaulted’
The Tbilisi-based newspaper, Rezonansi, said its journalist, Eliso Chapidze, was “physically assaulted” by several man in one of the provincial polling stations.
Lasha Tugushi, an editor-in-chief of the Rezonansi, told Civil.Ge that Eliso Chapidze was at the polling station in the village of Kvemo Magaro of Signagi district in the eastern region of Kakheti, gathering information and taking photos. “Several men approached her and told to stop taking photos,” Tugushi said. “They assailants broke her photo camera and physically assaulted her.”
Tugushi also said that identities of assailants are known and he hoped the law enforcement officers would investigate the incident. He also said that Chapidze, who also is an editor of the Rezonansi’s weekly addition Mteli Kvira, now felt well and continued performing her duties.
