Georgia Heightens Security on Border with Russia

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said, while addressing the National Security Council session on September 4, that he ordered the border guard department to increase control on border with Russia.


?We have very strict control on border, but we have to further increase security measures, we control each person crossing the border,? President Saakashvili said.


He once again reiterated Georgia?s readiness to cooperate with Russia in fighting terrorist.


?Events in Beslan [North Ossetia] developed very tragically. We could not imagine this kind of end [of the hostage-taking crisis]. As you know I have already sent a letter of condolence to the Russian President [Vladimir Putin],? Mikheil Saakashvili added.


According to the official reports Beslan hostage-taking death toll reached 322, including 155 children.
