Georgian State Minister Visits Moscow for South Ossetia Talks
Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Merab Antadze left for Moscow on August 16 to participate in a session of the quadripartite Joint Control Commission (JCC) scheduled for August 17-18.
Merab Antadze said on August 8 that during the JCC session Tbilisi plans to officially push for the revision of the decade-long agreement with Russia that serves as the legal basis for the current Russian-led peacekeeping and negotiation arrangements for the South Ossetian conflict.
The Russian Foreign Ministry reported on August 15 that the sides plan to focus during the JCC session in Moscow on the following issues: the launch of the activities of a joint working group, which was set up to develop a joint program on South Ossetian conflict resolution; the interaction between South Ossetian and Georgian law enforcers in the conflict zone; and the demilitarization and economic rehabilitation of the conflict zone.
The JCC is a quadripartite body of negotiators from the Georgian, South Ossetian, Russian and Russia?s North Ossetian sides.
