NATO Reaffirms Georgia Support

NATO allies reaffirmed on April 28 their “strong support” to Georgia sovereignty and reiterated that Russia “should reverse” its decision to establish official links with breakaway Abkhazia and South Ossetia, “which undermines that sovereignty,” NATO press release said.

Davit Bakradze, Georgia’s ex-foreign minister who now acts as president’s special envoy, met with NATO ambassadors in Brussels on April 28.

“Ambassadors also described statements by Russian officials and political figures considering a possible use of force by Russia in Georgian territory as unhelpful,” the NATO press release said.

It was agreed at the meeting that the North Atlantic Council representatives would travel to Georgia during the coming months, as part of the Bucharest summit decision to begin “intensive engagement” with Georgia.
