Ministers Note Positive Signals in Economic Talks with Russia

Georgia’s foreign and economic ministers said on February 20 that there were “positive signals” in talks with Russia on a number of economic issues.

“There are positive indicators that agreement may be reached on the resumption of direct air traffic, on the simplification of visa requirements and on the lifting of the trade embargo,” Davit Bakradze, the foreign minister, said. “There is cause for cautious optimism.”

“Anything is possible after the meeting [between the Russian and Georgian presidents in Moscow on February 21]. So far we have positive signals coming from Russia,” Eka Sharashidze, the economy minister, said.
