Electricity Rate to Increase
The cost of one kilowatt of electricity in the capital city Tbilisi is expected to increase from the current 11.59 Tetri (approximately 6.3 cents).
Valery Pantsulaia, a spokesperson of the electricity distribution company Telasi, said on April 10 that the company will appeal to the Georgian Electricity Regulation Commission with a request to increase the rate.
“Currently neither the amount nor the date of possible increase is known,” Valerie Pantsulaia told Civil Georgia.
Rustavi 2 television reported that if increased, the cost of electricity consumption will total 15 tetri per kilowatt hour.
Valery Pantsulaia said that the increase has become necessary mainly because of the increased price of Russian gas, which is used as a primary fuel for generating electricity.
