Major Power Generator to Ease Tbilisi Energy Shortage

Georgian technicians have finished restoration of the major 9th power generator in Gardabani, which will ease electricity shortage in the capital Tbilisi, Georgian PM Zurab Nogaideli said on Sunday.

Electricity is still rationed in Tbilisi and a revolving timetable is still in force so that every district could have some power, but restrictions will be lifted by the evening on Sunday after the 9th power generator starts operation with its full capacity which is 250 megawatts, Valeri Pantsulaia, spokesman of the Telasi, electricity distribution company in Tbilisi, said.

The vital power generator was damaged as a result of an emergency shutdown on January 26.
