Bezhuashvili: Tbilisi Wants a Balanced Negotiating Format in S.Ossetia

In an interview with the Russian news agency RIA Novosti on October 31 Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili denied that Tbilisi is trying to downplay Russia?s role in the South Ossetian conflict resolution process through the Georgian side?s intention to change the current negotiating format.

?We are not talking about replacing Moscow with Washington. No one is trying to downplay Russia?s role in this process. We are talking about the establishment of fair playing rules and about broadening the [negotiating] format, as well as about increasing its effectiveness. In frames of the existing format we have failed to solve the problem for many years already,? the Georgian Foreign Minister said.

Georgia wants to involve representatives from the OSCE, EU and U.S.in the current Russian-dominated quadripartite Joint Control Commission (JCC).
