New Abkhaz PM Appointed

President of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh appointed Alexander Ankvab as the unrecognized republic?s new Prime Minister on February 14, Itar-Tass news agency reported. 
 
Sergey Bagapsh, who was sworn in as the President on February 12, has already accepted the resignation of the entire cabinet formerly led by Nodar Khashba.
 
Influential political figure Aleksander Ankvab, who was formerly the Interior Minister of breakaway Abkhazia, is a close ally of Sergey Bagapsh and the leader of the political party Aitaira.
 
Ankvab intended to run for President in last year?s elections; however, after he was denied registration by the Central Election Commission, Ankvab supported Sergey Bagapsh.
