U.S. Senate Honors Georgia on Anniversary of Rose Revolution

In a resolution issued on November 22 the U.S. Senate congratulated the people of Georgia on the first anniversary of the Rose Revolution, the peaceful and bloodless protests that followed parliamentary elections deemed fraudulent, and for their commitment to democracy, peace, stability, and economic opportunity, the Georgian Embassy to the United States reports.

The U.S. Senate commended President Mikheil Saakashvili for his vision of, and commitment to, a peaceful and democratic Georgia, rule of law, an open market economy, regional cooperation, and closer integration into western institutions.  The U.S. Senate also reiterated its support for the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and democratic government of Georgia.
