Iranian Foreign Minister Urges for Regional Security Cooperation

(Tbilisi. April 30, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said on April 29 in Tbilisi that the Caucasian and neighboring states should promote regional security with the joint efforts.

At the joint briefing with his Georgia counterpart Irakli Menagharishvili, Kamal Kharrazi said that Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Turkey and Iran have to cooperate in order to foster security in the region.

Georgian Foreign Minister Irakli Menagharishvili said ?it is early yet to discuss establishment of the regional security system [proposed by Iranian Foreign Minister], which probably will be formed in the future.?

Kamal Kharrazi reiterated Iran?s support for Georgia?s territorial integrity and expressed readiness to assist in Abkhazian conflict resolution.

He also expressed satisfaction with the increase of the economic cooperation and trade between Georgia and Iran in recent years.

Iranian Foreign Minister arrived in Tbilisi on April 29 from Baku and left for Yerevan on the same day.
