Government Admits IMF Targets not Fulfilled yet

(Tbilisi, July 23, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Georgia has not fulfilled even a single paragraph of the IMF Mission’s recommendations, President’s Adviser for Economic Issues Temur Basilia said at a July 23 government session in the State Chancellery.

“We have not fulfilled any of the IMF recommendations, however definite work is being done in this direction,” Basilia said.

State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze explained Georgia’s failure to fulfill the IMF recommendations with the incapability of the Parliament to adopt draft laws necessary for the implement! ation of the IMF recommendations.

The government has not submitted to the Parliament a draft on budgetary correction, which considers cutting of the budgetary expenditures by 95 million Lari (approximately USD 44 million).

The IMF Mission, which visited Tbilisi on June 24-July 7, requested the government to fulfill its recommendations until August 15.
