Georgia, Russia to Investigate Violation of Border by Georgians

(Tbilisi, September 3, 2002, Civil Georgia) – Georgian and Russian Border Guard Departments will jointly investigate the fact of violation of the Georgian-Russian border by the three Georgian border guards, detained by the Russians near Mamisoni pass on September 2.

Georgian Border Guard Department reports that the violation of border was misunderstanding.

Russian media sources report quoting border guard officials that the Georgian trespassers will be handed over to Georgia after the probe.
