Georgia Claims It Can Deal with Pankisi Problem Independently

(Tbilisi, February 19, Civil Georgia) – Press-service of the Georgian President issued a statement on February 19 saying that Georgia is able to crackdown on criminals in Pankisi gorge independently.

Spokesman of the Georgian President Kakha Imnadze denied reports of international media on possible joint operations of Georgia and some other states in Pankisi to defeat criminals and terrorists harboring there.

“Talks on joint operations in Pankisi with the other countries are unrealistic”, Imnadze said today.

Four policemen abducted on February 17 are still detained by the kidnappers in Pankisi gorge.
