Georgian, Russian Diplomats’ Meeting Postponed Again

A meeting between Georgian PM’s special representative for relations with Russia, Zurab Abashidze, and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Grigory Karasin, has been postponed for a second time this month.

The two diplomats spoke by telephone and agreed to hold the meeting in next few weeks, according to the Georgian PM’s office.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the two diplomats agreed during the phone conversation to hold the meeting in March.

Both the Russian Foreign Ministry and Georgian PM’s office said in their statements that the two diplomats “reaffirmed importance to continue” Russian-Georgian dialogue.

Abashidze and Karasin were initially scheduled to meet in Prague on March 4-5, but it was delayed for March 14, before again postponing the meeting for a later date, which has yet to be set. Abashidze declined to discuss reasons behind postponement of the meeting.

This format of dialogue between the two countries, led by Abashidze and Karasin, was launched in December, 2012 to address issues related mainly to trade, economy and people-to-people contacts.
