Journalists Protest Violence against Media

(Tbilisi, September 5, 2003, Civil Georgia) – The Independent Association of Journalists today issued a protest letter, in which it condemned the fact of beating a cameraman from the Adjara TV Company.

A journalist from the Adjara TV company was insulted and a cameraman beaten on September 4 by the security guard of the State Chancellery (President’s administration).   

“The incident, which aimed at intimidating journalists, poses a threat to freedom of expression,” reads the letter.

The Independent Association of Journalists, which unites over 150 representatives of Georgia’s !
mass media, calls on the relevant bodies to investigate the case as soon as possible.
