British Citizen Arrested on Drug Trafficking Charges

Police arrested a British citizen on drug trafficking charges following a joint operation by Georgian law enforcement agencies. The suspect, identified as B.K., born in 2006, is accused of illegally purchasing and storing a particularly large quantity of narcotics, including marijuana, and illegally importing them into Georgia.

Law enforcement officers seized approximately 12 kilograms of marijuana and 2.068 kilograms of hashish from the suspect’s luggage during an inspection at Tbilisi International Airport. If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in jail or life imprisonment.

BBC identified the suspect as Bella Culley, 18, from Billingham on Teesside, who had previously been reported missing in Thailand and arrived in Georgia on May 10, and she has since been held in temporary detention.

During her initial court appearance, Culley chose not to speak. Her state-appointed lawyer Ia Todua said, “When she was explained the essence of the accusation, she was worried to speak. When we asked her to testify at that moment she decided to choose silence.” Todua added that other lawyers had contacted her about representing Culley and that the British consular service planned a meeting.
