South Ossetia Joins ‘Russia Day’ Celebration

Ceremonies marking ‘Russia Day’ – the main state holiday celebrated in Russia on 12 June ? are being held in the breakaway South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali, as ?98% of the population of South Ossetia are Russian citizens,? the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported on Monday.


On this day, in 1990,the  Russian parliament formally declared its sovereignty. As in Russia, June 12 is a public holiday in breakaway South Ossetia as well.
