Foreign Office Updates Travel Advice Concerning Shaw’s Abduction

(Tbilisi, June 28, Civil Georgia) – The Foreign Office updated its travel advice for Georgia in response to the abduction of British citizen Peter Shaw.

Website of the Foreign Office reports that “visitors should avoid travelling alone, keep a relative or friend informed of their movements and, where possible, telephone somebody when they arrive home. It is also sensible to keep car doors locked while on the road. (There have been car hi-jackings in Georgia).”

Peter Shaw, banking expert and co-director of Agro-Business Bank of Georgia was abducted in central Tbilisi on June 18, “the first British national to be the victim of a kidnap but the third international kidnapping over the past 18 months,” the Foreign Office reports.

Georgian Interior Minister says that the police have enough information to investigate the case successfully. The law enforcers refrain to reveal information concerning the investigation. The police have a identikits of seven criminals, which allegedly kidnapped Shaw.

In the evening on June 18 seven gunmen in the faked police uniforms kidnapped Shaw while driving to his apartment.
