Abashidze Appointed President’s Representative in Abkhazian Conflict

Chairman of the Supreme Council of Adjarian Autonomous Republic Aslan Abashidze has been appointed as Special Representative of President Shevardnadze in Abkhazian Conflict regulating process, stated Shevardnadze during today’s briefing.

“Aslan Abashidze has chances to work towards peaceful resolution of the conflict. He would facilitate intensification of the peace talks” – Shevardnadze stated.

The Abkhazian side already responded to this appointment. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of unrecognized Abkhazian regime Sergei Shamba has welcomed Shevardnadze’s decision.
