Georgia, India Sign Agreement on Air Traffic

Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Giorgi Gakharia, and India’s Minister of Civil Aviation, Ashok Gajapati Raju, signed the first-ever agreement on air traffic between the two countries on April 12.

According to the Georgian Economy Ministry, air travel may be launched between various locations of the countries. Several destinations will be available for Georgian air-carriers, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Goa.

“Open Skies agreement will facilitate development of aviation and flights. I think since we are preparing to sign the Free Trade Agreement with the country and have already started to explore opportunities in this direction, direct flights and the Open Skies regime will contribute greatly to business connections and facilitate rapid economic growth,” Georgian Economy Minister Giorgi Gakharia said.

The two countries launched consultations on the issue in 2016.
