NATO NAC to Visit Georgia on Sept.7-8

The North Atlantic Council (NAC) chaired by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will visit Georgia on September 7-8.

It will be the fourth visit of ambassadors from NATO member-states from the Alliance’s political decision-making body, NAC, to Georgia; the first one took place in September, 2008, when NATO-Georgia Commission was launched, and then in November, 2011 and June, 2013.

On September 7 Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will chair a meeting of the NATO-Georgia Commission in Tbilisi, with the participation of Georgia PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili, according to NATO.

On September 8 NATO ambassadors and the Secretary General will meet President Giorgi Margvelashvili; speaker of outgoing parliament David Usupashvili; Defense Minister Levan Izoria and Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze. The NATO ambassadors will also meet members of the opposition parties, as well as representatives of media and NGOs.

During the visit, the NATO Secretary General will deliver a speech at the National Library in Tbilisi.

“This is a very important visit, which reaffirms NATO’s support for Georgia. It will be possible to discuss implementation of the [NATO] Warsaw summit results. We think that the country’s progress in terms of democratic and economic development will also be addressed,” PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili said on August 24.
