Garibashvili Visits France

Interior Minister Irakli Garibashvili, who is a prime ministerial nominee, has started visit to France during which he will meet French Interior Minister Manuel Valls, the Georgian Interior Ministry said on Monday.

Garibashvili is the third Georgian cabinet member to visit Paris over the past one week.

Defense Minister Irakli Alasania held talks with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian on November 8.

Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze also visited Paris last week; although main purpose of her visit was to address UNESCO’s General Conference, she also met French minister for European affairs Thierry Repentin.

Garibashvili also plans to meet Repentin during the visit to discuss Georgia’s EU integration, according to the Georgian Interior Ministry.

Foreign Minister Panjikidze said on Monday that Giorgi Margvelashvili, who will become Georgia’s next president after the November 17 inauguration, will meet French President François Hollande on the sideline of the EU Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius later this month.

According to the Georgian Interior Ministry, an agreement between France and Georgia on circular migration will be signed during Garibashvili’s visit.
