GG&MW Applies for ‘Borjomi’ Production License

Georgian Glass and Mineral Water (GG&MW), a company producing Borjomi mineral water for over a decade, said on March 16, that it made a bid to renew its license.

The Georgian Economy Ministry announced last month that the 25-year license for production of Borjomi mineral water will be auctioned with a starting price of USD 8 million on March 20.

GG&MW, which owns rights to ‘Borjomi’ trademark, obtained 10-year license for Borjomi production in 1997. Since 2007 the license had been extended once in every six months and the most recently the license was extended only for three months expiring in March.

The company said on February 19 that its shareholders had no plans to sell the business even if the renewed license would go to some other company.

GG&MW also said that it would be impossible for any other company to comply with number of technical terms related with extortion of the mineral water without the infrastructure which is now owned by the company.
