Party Official: New Rights, Republicans Having consultations with Alasania

Officials from the both Republican and New Rights opposition parties have confirmed having consultations with Irakli Alasania, the Georgia’s UN envoy, who has reportedly filed a resignation earlier on December 5.

Both Republican Party and New Rights Party are planning to announce about establishing an alliance between the two parties, tentatively next week.

“There have been certain consultations with Alasania,” Pikria Chikhradze of the New Rights Party told Civil.Ge on December 5. “We think that Alasania is the most acceptable persons among those who have recently quiet the authorities, with whom it is worth to cooperate.”

She, however, also said that it was too early at this stage to speak about “making Alasania a leader” of the alliance planned by the two parties.

Leader of the Republican Party, Davit Usupashvili, was reluctant to speak about the details of possible cooperation of the two parties with Alasania.

“Mr. Alasania will arrive in Tbilisi [from New York] and will himself inform the society about his plans,” Usupashvili told Civil.Ge.
