Russian MP Accuses Georgia of Opening Fire
On August 9 the Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia, led by Vice-Speaker of the Russian State Duma, MP Vladimir Zhirinovsky, issued a release saying that Zhirinovsky came under fire “from the side of the sea” while travelling in a vehicle convoy from the Russian town of Anapa to the Abkhaz capital of Sukhumi.
Through this incident, Zhirinovski claims, the “Georgian authorities [are] try[ing] to prevent the councillors of the Russian Duma from visiting their favourite vacation areas in Abkhazia.”
However, neither the Abkhaz nor the Russian side has confirmed the reports over the opening of fire at the Russian MP.
