Abkhaz CEC Registers Two Presidential Candidates

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia?s breakaway Abkhazia has registered two presidential candidates for the upcoming October elections – ex-Premier Anri Jergenia and Alexander Ankvab,leader of political movement Aitaira, reports Apsnypress.


Registration of candidates for the upcoming presidential elections in breakaway Abkhazia was launched on August 3 and will last for 20 days.


The Abkhaz opposition movements Amtsakhara and United Abkhazia have already nominated Sergei Bagapsh, the chief of the Abkhazian energy company ChernoMorEnergo, to run for President of the unrecognized republic.


De facto Prime Minister Raul Khajimba also joined the list of presidential candidates.


Abkhazia will elect a new leader on October 3 as the ailing incumbent President Vladislav Ardzinba?s term in office expires.
