OSCE Condemns Opening Fire on Georgian Village in South Ossetia

The OSCE Mission to Georgia expressed its concern regarding the developments in breakaway South Ossetia, particularly concerning the an incident that occurred in the early hours of July 28 in the Georgia village of Tamarasheni in the conflict zone.

?The incident at Tamarasheni was a substantial increase in the duration and ferocity of fire, including the use of under-barrel grenades. Last night a garage and a car were damaged. If tomorrow a house is hit and innocent civilians are killed, it will be difficult for the situation to be brought under control,? reads the statement issued by the OSCE mission on July 28.

The OSCE Mission to Georgia urged both the Georgian and South Ossetian sides to take all measures necessary to control their respective armed personnel in the zone of conflict, in order to prevent any further escalation of violence.

The OSCE mission also urged Svyatoslav Nabzdorov, the commander of the joint peacekeeping forces stationed in the conflict zone, to consider what can be done by the peacekeepers under his command, inlcuding the activation of night patrols, in order to avoid further such incidents.
