Saakashvili: We are Confident Election will Go Well
After casting a ballot in Thursday?s local polls, President Saakashvili said that he is ?confident that the election will go well.?
?This is the first-ever full-scale local self-governance election in Georgia, so in a way it is a big democratic step forward. It is significant because we are developing a new system, a new kind of phenomenon here in Georgia in order to transfer Georgia into a full-fledged liberal, European-style democracy. The way these elections are conducted means a significant step forward for Georgian democracy and our freedom agenda,? he told reporters.
He called on voters once again to show activeness to have high voter turnout.
He also said that Russia?s sanctions have failed to ?break our schedule here.?
?Our response to some overreaction and irrational statements has been to move on and to move on with developments? and nobody reacted in a special way? we are continuing to develop,? Saakashvili added.
